            Egyptian Conspiracy

                Chapter 1

It was a bright and sunny afternoon, but the real question was, when was it not a bright and sunny afternoon in Egypt? Not hardly unless it was sandstorm or a crazy rain storm that happens very very rarely. But that was not the case today, the sun was shinning as brightly as it usually did. However two particular figures were far down below, near a pyramid that was recently at least half unearthed from the desert sands, were two female women, one in her early forties, with a distinctive reddish brown hair, and a fair complexion, and blue eyes, an Englishwoman. While the other had identical hair color, was fourteen of age, with an olive complexion, and obsidian black eyes. The oldest was Dr. Barbara al-Fashir, and she was with her daughter, Aisha. They both wore a long puffy sleeve style shirts, with upturned callers, and said shirts zipped up in the front, while Barbara's was a more traditional white color, Aisha's was a light purple in color. Both wore brown pants that were form fitting from the mid thigh on down, but had a slightly baggy upper portion going up to almost the hip, mostly on the sides, as the rest of the pants contorted to their legs. They wore simple brown leather boots, with no zippers, just simple leather knee high boots.

Aisha stood behind Barbara as she was working on digging up a small artifact from the desert floor near the pyramid.

"I'm not sure I can ever get used to this place, it gives me the creeps," Aisha stated as she crossed her arms under her chest, holding her sides, feeling a bit nervous.

"Now why do you say that?" Barbara asked as she looked up from what she was doing.

"Isn't it obvious?" Aisha asked.

"I suppose you're right," Barbara commented as she pulled the artifact free and brushed it off a little before fully facing her daughter.

"But that wasn't your fault Aisha. You technically saved our lives with what happened," she then stated.

"I know, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It creeps me out, and being here in Egypt, is a good way to get away from some of the stuff back home, it still gives me the creeps. Even though I technically am an Egyptian," Aisha retorted.

"Well, not much has been found today. Just a few minor knickknacks still no, signs of an actual entrance, let's head back to our room," Barbara said.

"Alright. I dug a lot today as well, I'm bushed," Aisha stated as they two started heading back to town, turning in the stuff they dug up and headed for their apartment. They entered the lobby and started heading for the stairs when the clerk spotted them.

"Oh, Dr. al-Fashir!" he called, and Barbara turned in his direction.

"What is it?" she asked.

"A young woman was here to speak with you. She asked for which room you had, and she took the one next to it, 202," he replied.

"I see, what was it about?" Barbara asked.

"She didn't exactly say, but she said it was some important business," he replied.

"Very well, I'll see her then," Barbara replied as she continued on, Aisha quickly following.

"So are you really going to meet this woman?" Aisha asked as they entered their floor.

"Of course. But first I'm going to shower a little. After all, it pays to freshen up a little before meeting with someone. You should come along at least unless she says otherwise, that way you can go back to your room and I won't have to fetch you," Barbara replied as they walked to their room, which she unlocked and opened the door, and they both saw the lights were on, and sitting on the sofa across from them was a young twenty-five year old girl with lovely blue eye and long smooth brown hair, and a lovely slender figure. She currently wore a black top, small black skirt, along with a grey trench coat, with black rimmed sleeves and a black collar, and black knee high leather boots with little a little zipper on the side. She sat with her legs crossed and her hands cupped on her lap, and she smiled at the two.

"What the…how'd you get in here?" Barbara asked, astonished this girl had gotten into a locked room.

"I climbed through the balcony window," she replied.

"That's a bit crazy but who are you?" Aisha asked, wondering who this girl was.

"I'm Marina, a special investigator and adventurer," she replied with a smirk.

"An investigator and adventurer?" Barbara and Aisha asked at once.

"Yep, it's a little bit how I found you two," Marina replied, as she waved a newspaper article on the last case that involved both Barbara and her daughter, which made Aisha shiver a little but she kept herself composed, knowing the true story.

"Ya see, I solve cases and locate missing and stolen goods. And you and the little town of Snowden sure do seem like a place that could use a little extra help, I've solved a number of cases and recently recovered a stolen necklace the day after it was stolen, if that helps ya believe me," she added. Barbara was intrigued by this girl's power of deduction and quick study skills, not to mention sleuthing to locate and recover such things.

"Hmmm, then perhaps you can be of some assistance," Barbara commented.

"What's what I'm here for, what do you need?" Marina asked.

"Well, my mom and I are here digging up artifacts as you are nod doubt already aware of, but not only that we're trying to find the entrance to the pyramid we're digging around," Aisha replied.

"And to top it off, we're searching for a very special Paranoiac amulet, that's supposedly within this pyramid," Barbara added.

"Hmmmm, sounds intriguing. Very well then, I'll help you find an entrance and search for this amulet," Marina replied.

"Good. Now if you'd be so kind as to use the door this time, we'll head out to the pyramid in the morning," Barbara said, to which Marina simply chuckled a little as she got to her feet and walked for the door, Aishia opening for her and closing it once she was out.

"You really think we can trust her mom?" Aisha asked.

"I don't see any reason not to. Besides, she's legit, I've seen her picture appear in the paper a few times recently, she has a little bit of a reputation," Barbara replied.

"Alright, that makes me feel a little better," Aisha said.

"Get some rest, we have a lot of work ahead of us tomorrow," Barbara said as she went to go shower. The next morning Barbara, Aisha, and Marina arrived at the pyramid, still dressed in the same garb as before, same for Marina. Aisha led them to where she was working before.

"So what are we looking for here?" Marina asked as she surveyed the area, it was mostly a flat section of sand with a high wall of sand straight ahead and a bit to the left, while the wall of the pyramid was to their right.

"I remember I found a real soft section of sand around here yesterday before mom called me to help her with something so I didn't get to investigate it further and forgot until this morning," Aisha replied as she walked the area ahead of them, walking along and placing each step just so on the surface of the sand, both Marina and Barbara watched her, Marina was a bit intrigued and went to assist her, mimicking her movement style of stepping currently.

"I know it's around here somewhere…" Aisha said.

"Why so interested within a soft path of sand?" Barbara asked as she began walking casually towards them.

"Because I think it was a hole of some kind," Aisha replied.

"And holes could mean a point of entry," Marina deduced.

"Hmmm, that's a pretty valid poINT!" Barbara yelped when one foot sank in suddenly and made her jump back.

"You found it!" Aisha said as she rushed to where her mother had stepped, Marina following right behind her, Aisha getting down on one knee, Marina doing so as well. Marina felt the sand around her before applying pressure on the deep section Barbara's foot went into, it was much softer than the rest of the sand they were on.

"Hmmm," Marina pondered for a moment before using her fingers first before pushing her hand and a little bit of her arm into the sand and proceeded to pull it out.

"I can push my arm a fair ways into the sand there. I think there is some kind of opening beneath the surface, possibly a crack within a flat section of the pyramid, no doubt leading into a portion of it," she stated as she brushed her sleeve off a little.

"This could be the entry I've been looking for. It doesn't have to be from the main entrance, so long as it can ge us in," Barbara said.

"Hmmm, let me see if I can perhaps clear out some of the sand a little," Aisha said as Marina stood up but still stood near her as did Barbara as Aisha dug her hands into the soft sand, cupping big handfuls and tossing them ahead of her, she did this a few times and made the hole a tinny bit bigger, until after about eight or more times, they head a bit of a rumbling sound beneath the sand, and felt a little vibration beneath their feet, which made Aisha stand up in surprise, realizing in shifting the sand she must have affected some sort of balance point, but then nothing appeared to happen.

"Huh, we must have done something but we have no visible clue as to what yet," Barbara commented as she looked at the two, Aishia looking back at her but Marina continued to look down.

"Ummm, ya might wanna rephrase that," Marina said in a nervous tone, both looked down and saw all three of their feet were sinking into the sand, and what's more, the hole was getting deeper and they were slowly heading towards it.

"Oh my gosh! We're sinking!" Aisha exclaimed as she tried to quickly step back but her legs wouldn't cooperate right, while she'd raise one leg up a little she couldn't move it high enough as she tried to raise her other leg, the leg she raised before was sucked back down as they proceeded to sink faster, and Marina and Barbara were struggling similarly.

"I can't get my legs out!" Barbara said as they rapidly sank to and past their shins, they were almost at the center of the hole.

"I think we made the hole beneath the sand somehow bigger!" Marina stated as they approached their thighs and sank even faster and faster, already at their waists, then their chests in seconds.

"HEELLLLPPMMMM……." Aisha tried to scream as she held her arms up high but her head was swallowed up as they sank  beneath the sand's surface, the hole continuing to get deeper and wider rapidly for several minutes before it settled, leaving a bit of a crater in the section. Things were pretty black and dark for the longest time until…

"Mmm…NNMPH! NNNAH!" Marina exclaimed as she burst out of a sand pile and found herself within a large room, waist deep in a big sand pile, everything in the room was clearly Egyptian. She panted a bit before glancing around for her two friends, to which thankfully Aisha and Barbara burst out of the sand in a similar fashion she did.

"Is everyone alright?" Marina asked. Both Aisha and Barbara coughed a little.

"I think so…but what happened? Where are we?" Aisha asked.

"In the pyramid, like I deduced, there was a hole and by shifting the sand's weight above, made it collapse and become bigger. Essentially making a sink hole and sucking us down," Marina replied.

"I thought that was the end of us for a moment, but we seemed to have found our entrance, but now we have a bit of a problem," Barbara said.

"Finding a way out," Marina said. With that said the trio pushed and shoved on the sand a little to try and extract themselves fully, it took a little bit but eventually they were able to raise their legs up and get support to actually stand up. Aisha and Barbara brushed themselves off a little while Marina shook her coat a bit and kicked her legs, getting as much of the access sand off as she could, but thankfully given it's loose nature most of it came off of them pretty easily. Looking around the room it was pretty big, and had only one doorway.

"Hmmm, well, only one way to go, since up is out of the question," Aisha stated.

"Right. I just hope this place isn't too much of a maze," Barbara said as Marina walked over to the door, having a look into the next room, it was naturally much bigger and it sported many statues and artifacts.

"We shouldn't load ourselves up with loot, it'll make getting out that more difficult," Marina said.

"I wasn't planning on it, besides, I'm only really interested in one thing at the moment. If we come across it, I'll see if we can take it, naturally if it won't trigger a huge trap," Barbara said.

"But only if we find it on our way to the exit mother, we cant' waste too much time looking for both," Aisha stated.

"She has a point ya know," Marina agreed. Barbara nodded as they proceeded their way through the various hallways of the temple, some narrow corridors, huge rooms. Sometimes even somewhat narrow walkways over certain pits. Back outside the temple however, two figures were talking with the workers, inquiring about Barbara and her daughter, a man and a woman.

"We saw them along with another girl come onto the dig site, but we haven't seen them leave, not sure where they went," one replied.

"Thank you," the woman said.

"We'll see if we can find them," the man said, the workers didn't object as the two had a look around the site, checking the various locations, not finding a trace of them so far.

Who are these two people? And what awaits Marina and the others? Find out next chapter.
